We're looking for an Embedded SW Engineer
We develop and sell technology for recording interviews and providing interview training. Our goal is to prevent wrongful convictions and improve the treatment of interviewees.
Are you an engineer passionate about ethical innovation, building secure and dependable hardware that strengthens criminal justice and protects human rights?
Welcome to Davidhorn
Davidhorn empowers investigators with tools that make interviews efficient, accurate, and fair. With over 40 years as Europe’s leading provider of evidential interview solutions, we’re committed to enhancing justice, strengthening institutions, promoting peaceful societies, and providing access to justice for all.
Our work aligns with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 16.3, reflecting our dedication to a fair, peaceful world where trust in the justice system is universal.
With offices in Oslo, Grimstad, and Luton, our team combines deep technical expertise with strong commercial capabilities. We are continuing to grow – and now we’re looking for an Embedded C++ Engineer to join our Capture team in either Grimstad or Oslo.
Embedded SW Engineer
At Davidhorn, we build technology that helps investigators work faster, think more clearly, and reach fair outcomes under pressure. Our tools are trusted in over 40 countries by professionals who protect the vulnerable and uphold justice.
As an Embedded SW Engineer, you will help strengthen the very foundation of our platform by evolving the firmware and embedded systems that power our secure interview recording hardware– across both current and legacy product lines, as well as new solutions in development. Your work will span across the whole hardware ecosystem, from firmware, middleware, and fleet management to user interface.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
Firmware & Hardware:
- Technical ownership of embedded firmware components.
- Work on both firmware and software layers across the full lifecycle, ensuring tight integration between hardware and the wider Davidhorn platform.
- Ensure stability and robustness in existing solutions, making sure every recording is captured and delivered exactly where it needs to be.
- Contribute to the development of next-generation secure interview recording devices.
Collaboration & Delivery:
- Collaborate closely with platform and product teams to ensure seamless integration.
- Apply a user-focused mindset, making technical solutions simple and intuitive for investigators in the field.
Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for a curious and analytical engineer who takes pride in building dependable hardware. You combine strong technical insight with a practical mindset, and you thrive in a collaborative environment where problem-solving and long-term quality matter.
You’re passionate about building ethical technology, have an open mindset, and enjoy both learning and sharing knowledge as part of a team. An interest in psychology, investigations, or human decision-making will help you connect with the purpose behind our products. You take initiative, communicate clearly, and stand by your ideas – while staying open to others.
Key skills and experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience with C/C++, or strong equivalent background.
- Solid understanding of Linux-based embedded systems.
- Familiarity with additional languages such as Go and Python.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Desirable skills:
- Experience integrating hardware and software in continuous development environments.
- Background in system-level integration.
- Understanding of containerization and cloud infrastructure.
- Ability to work independently and make informed technical decisions.
You may not tick every box, but if you share our purpose and believe in what we’re building, we’d still like to hear from you.
Why join us?
At Davidhorn, we’re not just building technology – we’re building tools that help real investigators make better decisions in complex, high-stakes situations. When someone’s freedom, safety, or reputation is on the line, the quality of an investigation matters. And the tools behind that investigation matter too.
You’ll work on technology used directly in interview rooms, case reviews, and frontline investigations in more than 40 countries. We have strong traction, a growing customer base, and the trust of police forces, prosecutors, and oversight bodies. That trust has been earned over years – and it’s what gives us the mandate to do more now.
We’re backed by committed, long-term owners who believe in our mission and in building for the long term – not chasing short-term gains. And we’re just getting started.
If you want to work on something that impacts real cases, real lives, and real decisions – and you want to help shape how technology can responsibly support justice – we’d like to hear from you.
